Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

This fragment preserves festival descriptions. Noteworthy are details which are rarely attested, if all, in the corpus, like the reference to the “spreading” of the “roads” (obv. 6′) and the rite of “drinking in the vapour” (obv. 14′). In lines obv. 18′ff. a direct speech is found; the preserved portion of the reverse deals with athletic contests.

Palaeography and orthography: Late QA (obv. 4′, 13′, 22′).

obv. 6′: For KASKAL … išpar(ra)-, cf. VSNF 12.11 iii 8′ and Bo 3306+ r. col. 11′. Note the unusual spelling with -pa-ar- instead of more common -pár-.

obv. 17′: For INIM-an namma mema-, cf. KUB 36.89 obv. 11, 53; see also the direct speech in the following line.

obv. 18′: The verbal form is either from wašta- “to sin” or from wešš-/wašše/a- “to be dressed.”

obv. 22′: Cf. KUB 56.39 iv 22.

rev. 2-3: For this passage, see Cammarosano 2014: 159.
